i didn’t know it would feel this way…

family June 20th, 2008

The last summer staffer to arrive at Arrah Wanna, my former home, called this week to say “hi” and let me know she was there.  They’re all there now ~ some new faces to the staff, some familiar ones, some I don’t even know.  But they’re all there.  And I am not.  For the past five summers (this would have been six), these kids have been part of my day-to-day routine…and this summer, they’re not.  Yes, they’re still family.  They’re still “my kids” and they will always be a part of my life.  But, tonight, this week, right now, I really, really, really want them to be a part of my day-to-day world.  I knew I’d miss them once June rolled around, but I didn’t know it would feel this way.

I understand the feeling. When we leave the old things behind, when the world we once had is being killed or slowly dying, you feel very alone. Especially when the surroundings are somewhat familiar and the people you knew, in your former life, are still in contact with you. Their lives haven’t changed and yours has, dramatically.
You cling to what you know and that is that God guided you to this spot and He’s still in the lead. It’s okay to be sad and miss them. I think that shows the capacity in your heart to love. But love is painful, so is change, so is newness, so is life…..sometimes.

Barb, I suggest you get up this morning, take a walk to a little coffee shop in downtown Mac and have a warm drink and talk with God. On the way, you can cry a little or a lot. You can soak in the memories and smile as you do. But remember, your capacity for new memories is under construction, right now. Allow a new foundation to be built so that God can have His way with you and bless you in the midst of your pain.

    Bless you my friend.
    Rick

Don’t forget that coffee. You can’t underestimate the power of a cup of GOOD COFFEE.

    Ah, how quickly they forget….

I HATE coffee! But I LOVE Pepsi, and the 12-packs were “buy two / get two free” today at Albertson’s! :-)

NEVER underestimate the joy that can be found in an ice cold glass of Pepsi!!

Barb, Just thinking about you and missing you. Campaign is going well. Things are starting to look up. This is tough stuff. People are starting to listen. Passion and anger are cousins and that’s good to know.
